Aktuelle Ansätze landschaftlicher Repräsentationen in Karten
Das komplexe Zusammenspiel der Phänomene auf der Erdoberfläche, das in der Alltagssprache als "Landschaft" bezeichnet wird, lässt sich mit dem Medium "Karte" nur bedingt abbilden. Karten dienen dazu, einen Aspekt der räumlichen Wirklichkeit modellhaft zu beschreiben. Karten gibt es heute in einer Vielzahl von Formen. Dazu gehören längst nicht mehr nur Papierkarten, sondern auch digitale Varianten wie digitale Globen oder 3D-Landschafts- und Gebäudemodelle als "kartenbezogene" Darstellungen oder als kurzfristige Darstellungen in geografischen Informationssystemen oder mobilen Navigationssystemen (Apps). Der Artikel stellt grundlegende Strukturen der modernen Kartenproduktion vor, die die Art und Weise beeinflussen, wie die Landschaft in Karten visualisiert wird und wie Landschaften von Kartennutzern wahrgenommen werden.
The complex interplay of phenomena on the surface of the earth, which in everyday language is called “landscape”, can only be depicted to a limited extent with the medium “map”. Maps serve to describe one aspect of spatial reality in a model-like manner. Maps are available today in a wide variety of forms. For a long time now, this has meant not only paper maps but also digital variants such as digital globes or 3D landscape and building models as “map-related” representations, or as short-term representations in geographic information systems or mobile navigation systems (apps). The article presents basic structures of modern map production, which influence the way in which the landscape is visualized in maps and how landscapes are perceived by map users.
