Der Beitrag enthält eine Anleitung zur Landvermessung (1566) und den Amtsbericht über die Vogtei Dömitz (1565/66) des Kartographen Tilemann Stella (1525–1589), die bislang nur handschriftlich im Landeshauptarchiv Mecklenburg-Vorpommern -Standort Schwerin überliefert waren und hier erstmals publiziert werden. Die begleitenden Kommentare ordnen die Quellen in den Kontext der Kartographie-, Verwaltungs- und Regionalgeschichte des 16. Jahrhunderts ein und analysieren ihre Bedeutung für die Entwicklung der Landesvermessung sowie für die historische Erforschung Mecklenburgs. Besondere Bedeutung besitzt Stellas Schrift für die Organisation der Landesvermessung. Der Amtsbericht liefert darüber hinaus eine detaillierte Beschreibung von Grenzverläufen, Siedlungsstrukturen, wirtschaftlichen Verhältnissen und politischen Konflikten im Grenzraum der Vogtei Dömitz. Damit stellt er eine wichtige Quelle für die Kartographie-, Verwaltungs- und Regionalgeschichte Mecklenburgs im 16. Jahrhundert dar.

The article presents an instruction for land surveying (1566) and a report on the Vogtei of Dömitz (1565/66) by the cartographer Tilemann Stella (1525–1589). Both texts have so far survived only in manuscript form in the Landeshauptarchiv Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Schwerin branch, and are published here for the first time. The accompanying commentary places these sources in the context of the history of cartography, administration, and regional history in the sixteenth century, and analyses their significance both for the development of land surveying and for historical research on Mecklenburg. Stella’s treatise is of particular importance for understanding the organisation of territorial surveying. The report, moreover, provides a detailed description of boundary lines, settlement structures, economic conditions, and political conflicts in the border region of the Vogtei of Dömitz. It therefore constitutes an important source for the cartographic, administrative, and regional history of Mecklenburg in the sixteenth century.
